Content Introduction:
Harold Adams Innis, the founder of the "media determinism" school, asserted in his book empire and communication: “The strength of a new medium will lead to the emergence of a new civilization."
Firstly, it about the theory of media determinism. In this treatise on communication, economist Innis focuses on the development and change of media: The whole process from the ancient Egyptian civilization to the Roman empire and post-capitalism. The importance of media is naturally reflected in the process of the historical change of civilization.Secondly,it is about the theory of transmission bias. Innis divided the propagation bias into a medium relying on time and a medium relying on space. The former is durable, such as parchment, clay and stone. The latter has a lighter texture, such as paper. The bureaucratic system of the country relies on space, and religion relies on time. But the successful Empire must integrate two kinds of bias. Just like the emergence of the Byzantine Empire, it blended the papyrus and parchment bias, it controlled political and Christian organizations.
