In order to deepen the reform of postgraduate training and curriculum system and further improve the quality of postgraduate training, the Department of Political Science held a seminar on postgraduate teaching and training in 2018 on the afternoon of April 18. The head of the department, Professor Liu Qing, the chairman of the departmental sub-committee, Professor Qi Weiping, and the directors of the teaching and research departments and some key teachers attended the meeting.
The seminar is mainly to summarize the practice of postgraduate training and curriculum system reform in the Department of Political Science in 2015-2017, further improve the postgraduate training , and strive to find new breakthroughs , and service for improving the discipline of the Department of Political Science.
In October 2014, the Department of Political Science held a postgraduate training conference, which adjusted the postgraduate major, and integrated some of the majors with poor long-term students and weak tutors into other majors, making the training strength of graduate students more concentrated and effective. At the same time, it also promoted the further focus of the development of political science. In addition, the postgraduate training and curriculum system has been adjusted to emphasize the basic training of political science and to reflect the characteristics of each specialty. It has formed 3 (Unified organization of three professional basic courses; "Fields and methods of political science research", "History of Chinese and Foreign Political Thoughts", "Social Science Research Methods") +2 (Two professional compulsory courses and foreign language teaching) +X (Establish an elective course library, open up secondary subject restrictions, and provide a wealth of course options). The program has been in operation since September 2015. It has experienced three years, achieved certain results and exposed some problems.
Representatives believed that the achievements of the reform in 2015-2017 are worthy of recognition. Mainly in: After the questionnaire survey, graduate students' satisfaction with the curriculum system reached more than 72%; Initially formed three complete teaching teams, with a certain degree of degree-based courses; The quality of the course has been improved, one postgraduate degree course, and three elective courses have passed the evaluation of graduate school experts, and received fund; Formed 4 stable and active autonomous academic community. But on the other hand, the problem is also worth thinking about and improving.
Based on the preliminary survey of Graduate Questionnaire and Instructor interview, the representatives summarized and discussed the problems of the reform in 2015-2017. Departing from the overall development of the discipline of political science, the representatives held a heated discussion on the attitude of responsible for the postgraduate training, and basically reached a consensus. They think: In the professional basic course section, in addition to "Fields and methods of political science research", the other two professional courses should be group-sharing construction or independent construction according to the actual training requirements of each major; All the courses should further strengthen the inherent logic of the curriculum and the overall construction; The frontier of compulsory courses and the enrichment of content need to be further strengthened; Further exploration is required for individualized research-oriented courses.
The meeting believes that the future curriculum system will be fine-tuned. The basic principle is that continue to reflect the basic training of large-scale schools, pay attention to the needs of secondary professional differentiation, strengthen secondary professional training, and encourage extracurricular academic autonomy and self-government activities to make up for individualized teaching needs. The teaching and research sections have initially proposed a basic curriculum construction plan suitable for the development of the second-level professional disciplines and postgraduate training, as well as the basic training of political science. All professional teaching and research sections have expressed their intention to further strengthen the construction of compulsory courses in various majors and said that when participating in the construction of the graduate elective course library, it will further reflect the frontier and the characteristics of teacher research.
In the coming months, the professional teaching and research sections will further refine their respective training programs and curriculum systems according to the consensus of this meeting, and form a new training program and curriculum system at the end of July.
This meeting conducted an in-depth analysis of the status and development of our postgraduate training. It is of great significance to further optimize the construction of the postgraduate curriculum system, build a training program for the characteristics of the political department, and comprehensively improve the quality of postgraduate education.
